His current interests include researching the historical development of urban blocks, in their social and economic context. He is now a senior lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Oxford Polytechnic, where he played a central role in introducing the Schools uniquely pluralist Diploma course. He has worked in several London offices, including that of Powell and Moya, before forming a practice which developed a special expertise in buildings for health care. He has written on these and related topics, in both books and articles, and for television.Īlan Alcock is an architect. His particular interests include designing develop- ment strategies for the regeneration of run-down inner- city areas, and researching the effects of the property development process on urban form, building imagery and architectural theory.
